Training

The Greer Police Department is dedicated to enhancing officer safety and delivering exceptional service through advanced training programs. These programs are designed not only for officers in Greer but are also open to law enforcement personnel from other agencies, fostering a collaborative approach to professional development.

Since 2008, the department has served as a regional hub for training. The training room provides an optimal environment for learning and hosts a wide array of courses, including those offered through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. With the support of both in-house and visiting instructors, the department brings training opportunities to the region, benefiting agencies across the Southeast. Industry leaders also utilize the facilities for equipment testing, allowing officers to field-test cutting-edge tools.

Among the department's resources is a state-of-the-art Firearms Training System (FATS), enabling scenario-based exercises that refine marksmanship, tactical skills, judgment, and adherence to engagement protocols. With more than 20 certified instructors across various disciplines, the Greer Police Department boasts extensive expertise to support training both in the classroom and in the field.

Improving Public Safety ForGreer

To better support our first responders and ensure they can train consistently within Greer, a state-of-the-art Public Safety Training Facility is being developed.

The Greer Police Department dedicates thousands of hours annually to training, with much of this essential preparation currently taking place outside the city and relying on facilities in neighboring municipalities.

The center will be built on the former Hood Road Fire Station site and will feature a 50-yard indoor firing range, a new fire training tower, and seminar classroom space. This facility will not only enhance the training capabilities of Greer’s Police and Fire Departments but also serve as a resource for other municipalities in need of modern, accessible training space.
