Training & Professional Standards

Basic Firefighter Qualifications

  • CPR/First-aid/AED – 4 hours

  • EMT – 220 hours

  • OSHA Basic Firefighter – 105 hours

  • Firefighter I (NFPA 1001) – 65 hours

  • Firefighter II (NFPA 1001) – 44 hours

  • Basic Auto Extrication – 16 hours

  • Rescuing the Rescuer – 20 hours

Driver / Operator Qualifications

  • CDL or Class E Driver’s License

  • Emergency Vehicle Driver Training – 40 hours

  • Pump Operations – 40 hours

  • Mobile Water Supply – 16 hours

  • Aerial Operator Training – 24 hours

Technical Rescue Qualifications

  • Introduction to Technical Rescue – 2 hours

  • Technical Rescuer – 20 hours

  • Rope Rescue High Angle Operations – 24 hours

  • Confined Space Operations – 24 hours 

  • Confined Space Rescue -16 hours

  • Trench Rescue – 24 hours

  • Water Rescue Operations – 16 hours
    Total: 126 hours

Hazardous Materials Qualifications

  • HAZMAT Operations – 32 hours

  • Risk Based Air Monitoring –  8 hours

  • HAZMAT Technician – 40 hours

Total Training: 800 Hours for Firefighters

Annual Training Requirements

Annually each firefighter is required to complete the following training requirements.

  • Annual Company Training – 16 hours per firefighter per month

  • Annual Driver Operator Training – 12 hours per firefighter annually

  • Annual Officer Training – 12 hours per officer annually

  • Annual HAZMAT Training – 6 hours per firefighter annually

  • Annual Training at Tower – 18 hours per firefighter annually

  • Annual Interdepartmental Training – 36 hours per firefighter annually
