Every person engaged or intending to engage in any calling, business, occupation, profession, or activity engaged in with the object of gain, benefit, or advantage, in whole or in part within the limits of the City of Greer, South Carolina, is required to pay an annual license tax for the privilege of doing business and obtain a business license as herein provided. License taxes are based upon the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code of the business and the annual gross revenue earned within the city limits of Greer. If you are a new business, your business license tax is calculated on projected gross revenue for the first year of operation.

The required renewal fee shall be paid annually on or before April 30. For non-payment of all or any part of the correct business license tax, the business license coordinator shall impose and collect a late penalty of five (5%) percent of the unpaid tax for each month or potion thereof after the due date until paid. Penalties shall not be waived.

Partial payment may be accepted, however, no business license shall be issued or renewed until the full amount of the tax due, with penalties, has been paid.

Business licenses can be obtained during regular business hours Monday thru Friday 8 AM-5 PM (excluding holidays) at Greer City Hall. You can also complete the Business License Information Sheet linked below either via the online form or the download link. Send any downloaded forms via email to greerbloffice@cityofgreer.org. You can also access our GIS map application to find out if you'll be operating within city limits.

Please note: Federal tax returns may also be required if you are operating a non-profit business. A certificate of occupancy is only required for resident businesses only.
