Every person engaged or intending to engage in any calling, business, occupation, profession, or activity engaged in with the object of gain, benefit, or advantage, in whole or in part within the limits of the City of Greer, South Carolina, is required to pay an annual license tax for the privilege of doing business and obtain a business license as herein provided. License taxes are based upon the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code of the business and the annual gross revenue earned within the city limits of Greer. If you are a new business, your business license tax is calculated on projected gross revenue for the first year of operation.

The required renewal fee shall be paid annually on or before April 30th. For non-payment of all or any part of the correct business license tax, the business license coordinator shall impose and collect a late penalty of five (5%) percent of the unpaid tax for each month or potion thereof after the due date until paid. Penalties shall not be waived.

Partial payment may be accepted, however, no business license shall be issued or renewed until the full amount of the tax due, with penalties, has been paid.

The resident and non-resident license fee for each class of business will be calculated from the Business License Rate Schedule (PDF) linked below.

Business licenses can be obtained during regular business hours Monday thru Friday 8-5 (excluding holidays) at Greer City Hall. You can also complete the Business License Information Sheet linked below either via the online form or the download link. Send any downloaded forms via email to greerbloffice@cityofgreer.org. You can also access our GIS map application to find out if you'll be operating within city limits.

Renewals can also be completed at the Local Business License Renewal Center beginning February through May 30th of each year via the button linked below.

If you are a contractor you cannot renew your license using the Local Business License Renewal Center.

Any person who, resident or not traveling by foot, wagon, bicycle, any type of motor vehicle, or any type of conveyance going place to place, homes, businesses or streets, public or private, who offers or attempts to offer for sale any item of goods, wares and merchandise or service for present or future delivery, or any person selling any product on a temporary basis for any area outside a building within the city.

Below are some of the most common peddlers, however peddlers are not limited to the following:

• Solar Panel Companies

• Pest Control Companies

• Alarm and Internet Companies

• Vacuum Companies

There will be a service fee of an amount up to 3% of the total amount due on all debit and credit card transactions. The processing fee is assessed by a third party and is not collected by the City of Greer.
