Our Building & Development Standards Department has been working hard to help homeowners and others impacted by damage sustained during the recent storm.
The code enforcement and inspection teams are performing damage assessments throughout the city. This helps the city report the extent of the damage to state and federal partners which in turn helps declare an official emergency.
These teams are also working to help determine if homes with damage are safe to live in after sustaining damage.
Here are some things people in Greer need to know as we continue working through the recovery process:
If your electric meter has become detached from your home due to storm damage, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to get it repaired. A licensed electrician can do this work, but please ensure they have the proper license and bonding before they start work on your home.
Tree-cutting services, including many out-of-state companies, are pitching their services to homeowners. Before letting any company perform work on your home, please make sure they are properly licensed and bonded. If you hire an unlicensed company, any additional damage they may cause to your home can come back on the homeowner.
Contractors performing roofing services, siding replacement, electrical repairs, and structural work need to receive a permit from the city.
To verify that companies have the proper licenses, bonding, and permits they need to perform work on your home, you can call our Building & Development Standards Department at 864-848-2175.
