A new art exhibit is on display right now at the Center for the Arts.
“This art exhibition is called expressions of valor, and we are honoring veterans our local veterans. We ask them to submit some images of their artwork and it’s on display for you to see,” Cultural Arts Supervisor Robin Byouk said.
Cultural Arts Supervisor Robin Byouk says the idea for a veteran-focused exhibit came from an artist in residence who is a veteran herself.
“It was actually her idea she came up with it and we were sitting around talking about what kind of artwork can we hang this coming year and she suggested the veterans,” Byouk said.
She says it means a lot to be able to host this collection of work.
“It’s a privilege. It’s a privilege and honor to be able to say look at what you doing now. Let’s all take a look at it,” Byouk said.
Byouk says this is just one part of how cultural arts is honoring veterans.
“We really wanted to amplify that time in conjunction with this art exhibit here at the center for the arts at City Hall and the wall gallery will be hanging. Our wall of honor is all photographs of past veterans from the Greer area,” Byouk said.
Along with the Wall of Courage that will be on display at Freedom Blast.
“It’s a big wall of photographs and we added 23 photographs 23 more veterans photos this year,” Byouk said.
You can view the art and meet the artists at a reception on Tuesday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center for the arts.
