The City of Greer Public Services Department recently got an upgrade to help keep underground infrastructure working its best.
“For us, it is a new piece of equipment that we are able to inspect maintain make repairs even locate those items that would be in the cities stormwater systems,” Public Services Director Travis Durham said.
Public Services Director Travis Durham says this new stormwater maintenance will help his team learn more about what’s happening under the surface.
“This piece of equipment here has afforded us that opportunity to be able to make those inspections and make those repairs much more effectively than we’ve ever been able to do before,” Durham said.
The vehicle cost about $285-thousand and comes with a camera system to explore the stormwater pipes.
“So we can see greater detail before even getting into the storm water system, that we weren’t able to see it before whether that be a separation, or a crack, or a water injury or things of that nature,” Durham said.
Which ends up saving the City and taxpayers money on the back end.
“We’ve already found a lot of instances where we can make those repairs without having to make that excavation dig whether it be in the road or on the side of the road on city property or things of that nature,” Durham said.
Plus, Durham says, there are even more things this tool can do for the the City in the future.
“You could laser pipes to where we could tell the condition a lot better we could tell slope we could tell age all kinds of different things that will be able to add to it later coming down the road,” Durham said.
