Board of Zoning Appeals

The Board of Zoning Appeals is a seven-member body whose powers and required findings are explicit in many instances. However, the board’s power is limited to three specific areas:

  • Administrative review of decision of planning staff

  • Granting Uses Permitted by Special Exceptions within the Zoning Ordinance

  • Granting variances to uses within the Zoning Ordinance

Its purpose is to guide development in accordance with existing and future needs of the community, and to promote public health, safety, morals, convenience, order, prosperity and general welfare.
