Renovations at Greer Golf are moving along as two major projects are nearly completed. The first, are changes to the ball dispensing machine area.
“The golfer that wants to come to the driving range and not necessarily play golf can just park close to the driving range hop out, swipe his card, get a bucket of balls and go to the range and hit,” Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Red Watson said.
The second, is the installation of turf on the driving range tee.
“We’ve seen a lot of growth and extended usage of the driving range since the city has purchased it and we want to find a way that we can keep it open at all months of the year,” Watson said.
Allowing golfers to enjoy the area year round.
“The turf that we are putting in people will be able to regardless of rain as long as the courses open you can come up here hit golf balls,” Watson said.
Those headed to the gold course will also notice the pro-shop is now located in the pool house, allowing construction on the clubhouse to be in full force.
“We moved them out there, because construction is now full force inside the pro shop with renovations to the basement for the cart, fleet and the new bar and kitchen area,” Watson said.
The $2.4-million renovations are still on track.
“We still expect to be completely out of construction by the spring,” Watson said.
And within budget.
“With funds that’s a local grant parks and recreation development and 8020 so the city only has to pay for 20% of that project cost,” Watson said.
The course will continue to be open throughout the rest of the renovations.
“We have not disrupted golf operations, and we do not intend to so we will be open for our normal winter hours,” Watson said.
