The City of Greer Parks, Recreation & Tourism department just wrapped up a rocking partnership with Chandler Creek Elementary and Greer Middle School over the past few weeks.
Students at both schools took part in the Rock your School initiative and painted various rocks that are now on display at Tryon Park. The Rock your School program is designed to get kids involved in a fun and creative activity that helps to spread kindness and celebrating the little things.
We’ve just got our regularly scheduled City Council meeting for you this Thanksgiving week.

Downtown Greer shoppers, we’ve got something fun for you this holiday season.
In partnership with @discovergreer, we’re introducing the Greer Station Holiday Passport! From November 29 – December 15 you can participate for a chance to win downtown gift cards. All you have to do is: pick up a passport from a business, collect stamps with each purchase (limit of one per business), and then turn in your passport to either Greer City Hall or Cartwright Food Hall at the Little Leaf Coffee counter!
You only need 5 stamps to be entered into the giveaway. Three winners will be notified the week of December 16. Passports can also be picked up at Greer City Hall Monday – Friday from 8AM – 5PM.

Debris clean up after Helene is still underway in Greer, and we have a few more updates for you this week.
SCDOT has collected 340,000 cubic yards of debris as of 11/14 across Greenville County. Collection will continue until at least January for our area. For the rest of the month in Greer, there will be a focus on Wade Hampton from US29/SC 291 all the way to the eastern county border with Spartanburg County.
We understand some people still haven’t had debris picked up or it may seem as if DOT is missing certain areas. Due to how FEMA structures its reimbursements, state road and city road debris cannot be mixed together. What this means is that the same trucks can’t pick up debris from state and city roads at the same time. DOT is using their own crews as well as contracted crews for work here in Greer. Lastly, any root balls or large logs will eventually be picked up with the use of larger equipment.
A heads up to anyone travelling on South Line St Extension: our storm water crews will have the road closed this week for crossline repairs. The closure started yesterday; November 18 ad will last at least until the end of the week (weather permitting.) Drivers should plan to find alternate routes until work is completed.
Coming at you at the start of the week with another episode of Greerview, the weekly Greer recap series where we recap what happened last week and look ahead to what’s coming up this week.
Last week we had: a Helene debris collection update, our recently released parking survey, and more.

Bailey the Fox may still be on vacation from City Park, however, there’s been a spotting near Jason Street Parking Garage! Earlier this week, a new wrap featuring Bailey was placed on one of the Sutera in-ground containers near the garage. The wrap was paid for by a grant from Palmetto Pride through partnership with Keep Greenville County Beautiful.
Bailey’s mission is to help bring litter awareness and ultimately encourage a litter-free community here in Greer. Did you know that the city offers free litter cleanup supplies, helps to organize local cleanups and provide other beautification resources? If you happen to walk by the Sutera, be sure to scan the QR code for more information!
We’ve got some small debris pick up updates in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
As of earlier this week, DOT contractors have collected 4,800 yards of vegetative material from the city. They’re running four total trucks and will continue to do so for the next month. The excess debris is currently being dumped on city property off of S Buncombe temporarily. We do not have a set schedule for where and when they will be in specific neighborhoods/areas.
As some friendly reminders: please don’t block sidewalks or fire hydrants with debris! We recently posted about loose leaf collection and encourage you to keep any leaf piles separate from debris.
When the leaves start falling, the Public Services department starts calling! Heads up to City of Greer residents with leaves already starting to pile up: the Public Services department has started its loose leaf collection cycle.
Collection will go from now until mid-February, so be sure to have your leaves curbside the morning of your area’s scheduled pickup. For more information, and to view the complete pickup schedule, head on over to the loose leaf collection page: https://www.cityofgreer.org/o/ps/page/loose-leaf-collection
We’d like to hear from you! In collaboration with Walker Consultants, the City of Greer has created a short survey on parking in the downtown area. As we continue to grow, our plan is to improve parking over the coming years. The survey will remain open from now until December 1.
Head on over to the City Parking page to take the survey: https://www.cityofgreer.org/page/city-parking

The annual Syl Syl Christmas Toy Drive is this Sunday, November 10 from 2 - 4 PM at the Clock in Greer! (603 W Poinsett St.)
The toys donated will go straight into the Cops for Tots and Country Santa programs. They’ll be looking for new and unwrapped toys for kids aged 1-12. The toy drive commemorates Sylvia Holtzclaw who was involved in the tragic Blue Ridge Savings Bank case. Please consider donating to help underprivileged children and give back to the community this holiday season!
Debris clean-up efforts from Hurricane Helene are still underway. In case you missed our post last week, we want to remind you that the DOT is focusing on interstate and primary routes before they’ll be moving into neighborhoods and secondary roads. If you’re experiencing issues on a state-maintained roadway, please reach out to 855-467-2368 to report your concerns.
To determine if you live on a state-maintained roadway, you can view our GIS mapping tool: https://gismaps.cityofgreer.org/cityofgreermap/. Select the layers list icon on the left, filter to streets, then select “SC-DOT-Owned Streets” (you may have to zoom in and wait for it to load.)
Last week, both Mayor Danner and Parks, Recreation & Tourism director Ann Cunningham received awards on behalf of the MSG Preston B. Johnson Chapter 39 Disabled American Veterans. Mayor Danner received his award from the chapter for: “his dedication and unwavering support of veterans and their successful partnership for Freedom Blast.” Ann’s award was presented: “for her long commitment, devotion, and passion to Greer Veterans Park that honors America’s veterans.” The Greer DAV chapter has over 400 members who serve in the area, some of which were present during the Recreation Board meeting where the awards were presented.
