TRASH COLLECTION UPDATE: Meridian Waste says it will resume trash collection on Monday. Crews will begin with the routes they missed on Friday due to the weather and then begin on Monday's routes. Although they are enlisting additional help, it could take several days to get trash collection back on normal schedule. We will pass along updates as we get them.

STATUS OF FACILITIES:

City of Greer Convenience Center: Reopening Monday on normal schedule

ROAD CONDITIONS: As the temperature dips below freezing overnight, there is still the risk of slick spots on the roads. Drivers should use extra caution and leave more room than usual between vehicles.

SCHOOL SCHEDULES: Due to the potential for hazardous road conditions in the morning, both Greenville County Schools and Spartanburg District 5 will be shifting their bus routes and start times on Monday, January 13.

TRASH COLLECTION UPDATE: Meridian Waste says it will resume trash collection in the City of Greer on Monday, but there will likely be delays as crews work to catch up on the routes missed due to the weather. We will keep you posted about changes in the collection schedule as the week goes on.

Collection crews will start first thing Monday morning with the routes they missed on Friday. They’ll begin Monday’s normal routes after that, but Meridian does not expect to finish all of Monday’s routes on Monday.

A team from Powdersville will help Meridian catch up on trash collection in Greer, but it still might take several days to get back on the normal schedule. We hope to get daily updates on their progress, and we’ll pass that information along to you.

11:20 a.m.

Public Services confirms all City of Greer playgrounds are back open as of this morning. The Convenience Center will reopen tomorrow on a normal schedule.

9:20 a.m.

It's just below freezing, but temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 30s later today. We can expect the remaining snow and ice to continue to melt throughout the day.

Meridian Waste is scheduled to resume trash collection Monday morning beginning with the routes they missed on Friday due to the weather.

We'll keep you posted on the status of our roads, facilities, and operations.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 11 UPDATES

5:05 p.m.

City of Greer Public Services crews say there are some shady spots on the roads that did not clear up today. They will have two trucks with spreaders and plows running tonight. If you don't have to be out on the roads, stay home. If you must drive somewhere, be aware of the potential for invisible ice especially after dark and use extra caution.

11:55 a.m.

The City of Greer Public Services team spread six truckloads of sand and salt on the roads this morning. Grounds crews worked to clear downtown and the areas around police and fire stations. Our streets staff is on standby for this afternoon and tonight in case roads and bridges do not dry out well enough.

10:25 a.m.

The temperature is currently above freezing and is expected to reach the high 30s or low 40s throughout the day. That means the snow and ice that accumulated yesterday have started to melt. Some of our City of Greer facilities -- such as the Convenience Center, the Kids Planet at Century Park playground, and athletic fields -- are closed today due to the conditions.

Even though we'll continue to see melting snow and ice throughout the day today, forecasters expect the temperature to dip well below freezing again after dark. That means the threat of black ice, which is typically invisible in the dark, will return.

ROAD CONDITIONS: There could be black ice (essentially invisible in the dark) on the roads, so if you don't have to go out tonight, stay home. 1:27 p.m.

The City of Greer Public Services Department is already preparing for the potential of winter weather in the coming days.

Director Travis Durham's team is using assistance from SCDOT and modifying the current equipment to address any snow or ice we may see in Greer. They plan to run four or five spreaders and sprayers with a total of 3300 gallons of brine ready to treat the roads.

Meanwhile, our solid waste contractor, Meridian Waste, is shifting its collection up. They plan to start Friday's routes at 5:30 a.m. and ask that people on Friday's route have their bins placed at the curb Thursday night.
