The City of Greer Police Department is hosting another opportunity for the community to meet their officers. Sgt. Ashley Wright is over the community outreach division.
“As we continue to grow, we continue to hope to have new programs and grow new programs and get to know as many people as we can in the city of Greer,” said Sgt. Ashley Wright.
Her team is headed to Cole’s II Carp & Catfish Lake on Saturday, August 10 from 8-11 a.m. for the third annual Casting with a Cop event.
“Last year we had our second event and about doubled what we had the first year,” said Officer Jess Grimstad.
Officer Jess Grimstad is part of the community outreach team.
“We’ve had a lot of success with some of the events that we’ve had especially throughout the summer,” Grimstad said.
She says Casting with a Cop is just another way for families to get to know officers like her.
“So we’ll have a great time to come out and meet officers and learn a new skill if they’ve never fished before,” Grimstad said.
Recently, the police department has partnered with new organizations like Starbucks for Coffee with a Cop and Target for a summer safety event. Grimstad says it’s important to cast a wide net with these efforts.
“Getting to build those relationships with people in the community that maybe we haven’t engaged with yet it is just something that we’re really wanting to work on and continue to do with more and more businesses,” Grimstad said.
