A local family has been living a nightmare for the past four years.

“There’s not a name for it. It’s not supposed to work that way. What do you call them? Parents who lose their children,” Joy Richey, who is Marquis Richey’s mother, said.

“They might’ve took him, but we’re his voice now,” Elijah Richey, who is Marquis Richey’s father, said.

On June 8, 2020, Marquis Richey was shot at his home on Will Street.

“Marquis ultimately stumbled into the back bedroom where he collapsed, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” Greer Police Detective Marc Cappa said.

It’s a cold case homicide investigation Detective Marc Cappa has been working on for the past year, but it’s a reality that Marquis’ parents Joy and Elijah live every day.

“The worst day of our lives has been every day after having to drive away from that place without him,” Joy Richey said.

They have been on a crusade since their son was killed to get justice.

“He wanted to be married to have kids. That was stolen. It was taken from us. His voice was stolen,” Joy Richey said.

They’re asking anyone with information to come forward.

“Just think if it was someone in your family, you would want to know. And it’s not about being scared. It’s about telling the truth,” Elijah Richey said.

“For those who know, you are just as guilty as the person who pulled that trigger,” Joy Richey said.

Detective Cappa says this is a case he believes is solvable.

“It definitely takes information from people whether they’ve heard it secondhand, thirdhand, at this point it doesn’t matter. It could be information that they deem so small or my new none of that matters because, at this rate, any information is helpful,” Det. Cappa said.

The Greer Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward, and Greenville CrimeStoppers is offering an additional $2,000, for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Tips can be left anonymously.

“Will never get past it, but we can move on knowing that the person who done it or the people who have done it are locked up,” Elijah Richey said.

“We’ve been sentenced. We got our sentence on June 8, 2020, and we have been serving time,” Joy Richey said.
