The BMW Charity ProAm brought professional, amateur, and celebrity golf players from all over to the Upstate for a weekend at the Thornblade Club just outside city limits.
We caught up with musicians like Ben Rector Rascal Flatt’s Joe Don Rooney.
“Every time I come to this part of the country I’m always like I don’t understand it because it’s so awesome and I feel like I don’t immediately think of this area as a place that I want to go visit but every time I’m here I think I should spend all kind of time here it’s awesome,” singer-songwriter Ben Rector said.
“I’ve been here since 2008. I missed the last couple of years but it’s great to be back. I love the city and I love this tournament. I love what BMW does for all of the charities and how they give back is really amazing,” said Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney.
On Patrol Live’s Captain Danny Brown told us even though he calls the midlands home, he’s a fan of Greer.
“It’s gorgeous, it’s growing by leaps and bounds. The people here are phenomenal. The hospitality around here has been amazing so this is my second time up here visiting. Greer is beautiful,” Brown said.
Take it from national stars like Home Improvement’s Debbe Dunning.
“I love South Carolina. I always say if I had a second place to live it would be here,” Dunning said.
Or local faces like 7News Morning Anchor Fred Cunningham, who was invited to play in the tournament.
“I’m getting a chance to play with D.B. Sweeney today of course he’s been in big things Eight Men Out, Lonesome Dove, a lot of big stuff. So I’ll be sort of a minor celebrity compared to him by a longshot but it’s really fun. It’s nice to come around and people know your name, and of course, when you’re in Greer, everyone is so friendly anyways,” Cunningham said.
And don’t forget his partner…
“I don’t think there’s any nicer people than South Carolina and so I’m having a great time,” said D.B. Sweeney.
All of these celebrities, plus the spectators of the BMW Charity ProAm had a chance to discover Greer and all our area has to offer—with promises to come back for next year’s tournament.
“It’s explosive people come here and they say like wow. And the growth in this area, we have so many people moving to this part of the country who can work remotely and they say that’s a great place to live. It’s gorgeous. It’s new cool,” said Cunningham.
