You may see a new Public Services vehicle out on the streets of Greer these days.
“It is what we call a vac truck that is able to not only maintain but clean those stormwater assets that we have throughout the city,” Public Services Director Travis Durham said.
Durham said this truck cost about $530,000 and replaces a similar vehicle that was two decades old.
“We felt like every time it was going out it was breaking down and we were having to make repairs and we were spending money on something that was that age,” Durham said.
The new truck also has some upgrades that help the Stormwater Division work more efficiently.
“So the front on this truck were able to get into smaller pipes that we previously were not able to get into with our former truck we have a hydro-excavation on this truck that allows us to dig that hole with this unit collect that material all at the same time we’re not bringing an extra piece of equipment out to the site,” Durham said.
With this new piece of equipment, the team has also been able to be more proactive.
“It’s allowed us to be more efficient and out in front of those things a little bit better than we’ve been in the past,” Durham said.
And clean out known problem areas before there’s an issue.
“We’ve been able to get in front of those storms that we know are coming in and get into that box or that great or that pipe and make sure those things are cleaned on a regular basis,” Durham said.
