Signs

  • Please log into eTrakit and apply for a Sign permit.
  • Submit a scaled drawing, including dimensions, of the sign.
  • Submit a scaled site plan of the property, indicating property lines, location and setbacks from property lines to proposed sign, sight triangles at street/driveway intersections, and any existing signs.
  • Check for overhead utilities, where applicable.
  • Submit footing, foundations and mounting details, where applicable. For monument signs, please log into eTrakit and apply for a Building Commercial Monument Sign Permit. This permit needs to be applied for by a General Contractor with a BD classification.
  • If a sign projects over a public way or sidewalk, engineered details will be required for proper attachment. Plans should include height above walkways.
  • For signs over 12 feet, drawings sealed by a South Carolina registered engineer are required. The plans should include distances from overhead power lines.
  • For signs in the Downtown Fire District, all material must comply with the International Building Code.
  • For signs with electrical components, electrical plans should be submitted including a power rise diagram, wiring details in compliance with NFPA 70 and a description of the type of lighting. Illuminated signs must be UL approved. An Electrical Permit is required. LLR requires that the contractor hold a mechanical contractors license with the classification EL. They will also be required to have a City of Greer business license.
  • For signs within the Historic District, please consult the Planning Staff.
  • Footings and foundations must be inspected per the approved plans. All electrical wiring for signs must be inspected. The contractor must also request a final inspection.
