City of Greer Recycling Program

Recognizing that recycling is an investment in the future, the City of Greer offers two convenient ways for residents to recycle appropriate materials.

Regrettably, the market has forced the city to cease accepting glass items for recycling at this time. Currently there are no recycling locations in the area accepting glass and these items should be disposed of with household trash. Please call 848-2184 with any questions.

Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling of aluminum and paper products is available on a weekly basis to all residents who receive trash service through the city.  The City of Greer provides recycling containers at no cost to city residents.  Please do not place plastic items in your recycling bin.  These and other recyclable items may be taken to the Greer Recycling Center located at 315 Buncombe Street.

For curbside recycling, please rinse aluminum cans and place them loose in the recycling bin.  Also, please make every effort to keep paper items contained and dry by placing them in a paper bag or in empty cardboard soda packaging.  Then simply place the recycling bin next to your green roll cart trash container on the morning of collection.

To provide a comprehensive recycling experience, the City of Greer has partnered with ACE Environmental Inc. to provide a convenient  recycling location for the Greater Greer Area.  The facility, located at the former site of the city’s Public Services Department, is staffed six days weekly by ACE Environmental employees who are ready to assist recyclers.

"The economics of this are very simple.  We needed to create a recycling program that was not only affordable, but also one that could be provided at no cost to the taxpayers of our community," City Administrator Ed Driggers said.  "What you see operating on this site will bear no cost -- direct or indirect -- to the citizens of our community.  It will enable us to reduce waste into landfills, reducing costs that we have as far as tipping fees.  It also provides a financial incentive to the contractor to be successful on this site."

The center accepts:

All Paper Products

Aluminum and Steel Cans

Old Lawnmowers

Corrugated Cardboard

Used Motor Oil

Automobile Tires

Cell Phones

 Plastic Containers
(please rinse)

Your Old Car or Truck has Value!
The City of Greer does not accept old vehicles for recycling,
but several charitable organizations do accept cars and trucks
to support worthy causes. If you are considering donating a vehicle,
search the web for an agency that supports a cause dear to you.

Please do not bring household garbage, brush and leaves, building materials, chemicals, paint, etc. as these items will not be accepted at the center. ACE and the City of Greer will continue to host an annual Amnesty Day each spring for non-recyclable items. The city also provides residents with weekly curbside collection of recyclable aluminum and paper products (see below for information).

The public-private partnership and size of the operation is unique to the Upstate.

"ACE Environmental certainly appreciates the opportunity to partner with the City of Greer to provide this program to the community and the surrounding area," ACE owner Mike Phillips said.  "We will make it successful.  We'll do everything we can to make it convenient and easy for folks to drop off their recyclables."
