Detention Officer

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Detention Officer in our Police Department.

Responsibilities: booking inmates into the jail; completing required paperwork; obtaining photographs and fingerprints; ensuring welfare and security of inmates while incarcerated; processing inmates for release;  transport inmates to county detention facilities;  acting as desk officer in meeting public; answering phones, taking messages, routing calls; providing assistance in regard to warrants; taking written reports; entering information into records management system; receiving, reviewing, preparing and/or submitting a variety of reports and documents.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma/GED and basic computer skills.  Must be able to successfully complete a three-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia which includes a physical fitness test and must be completed within one year of hire date.  Must be able to work varying shifts, up to 12 hour per shift.  Must be able to qualify with department issued firearm;  Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Varying shifts, up to 12 hour per shift.  Training will take place from either 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM 

Salary: Grade 106 – Salary dependent of experience; minimum salary $29,320 year.

Building Inspector

Application Deadline: Friday, June 30

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Building Inspector.  The position under general supervision performs skilled work inspecting buildings and structures under construction to determine and ensure compliance with City’s building codes.  Work involves examining plans submitted for permits to determine conformity with regulations, and conducting various inspections for compliance including re-inspections, final inspections, zoning related requirement inspections, etc. Reports to the Building Official.

Responsibilities: Inspects building and structures that are under construction to determine compliance with the City building codes as required for the promotion of consumer/public safety and welfare; inspects footings, slabs, foundation, beams, columns, roofing, concrete, energy codes, plumbing, electrical and mechanical, etc.  Conducts various other inspections to ensure code compliance including re-inspections, signs, pools, mobile homes, fire damage, etc.  Reads and reviews plans for code compliance as required; receives and reviews architectural drawings to ensure code compliance; conducts final inspections.  Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals involved in the operations of the department including contractors, property owners, etc. in order to explain and interpret codes and regulations regarding construction, alteration and repair of buildings.  Prepares and maintains necessary reports of inspections made; prepares and processes monthly reports of total inspections performed.

Job requirements: Vocational/Technical school training in building construction and design with a minimum of two (2) years building construction or inspections; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess, or obtain within 36 months of hire a SC Building Codes Council registration as a Combination Residential Inspector and two Commercial Certifications through the International Code Council with certifications in building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical. At least two certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire; must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Salary:  Grade 110 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $35,638 year.

Code Enforcement Officer (part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Part-time Code Enforcement Officer.  This position under general supervision performs skilled work for the Building Inspection and Code Enforcement Division.  Work involves performing nuisance abatement inspections for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. Reports to the Building Official.

Responsibilities: Inspects overgrown grass, abandoned vehicles and other types of nuisance complaints. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals involved in the operations of the department including contractors, property owners, etc. in order to explain and interpret codes and regulations. Prepares and maintains necessary reports of inspections made; prepares and processes monthly reports of total inspections performed.

Job requirements: Vocational/Technical school training in building construction and design with a minimum of two (2) years building construction or inspections; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  $17.35 hour (Grade 110); no benefits are provided with part-time positions.

Telecommunicator

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Telecommunicators in the Fire and Police Departments.

Responsibilities: Answers 911 emergency and non-emergency telephone lines; dispatches calls to responding police and fire units; monitors alarms and other telecommunications equipment; operates SLED/NCIC computer in order to access information and prepares various reports and maintains communication logs.

Job requirements: High School diploma or GED.  Must be able to successfully complete the E911 training class and become certified by the National Crime Information Center, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Priority Police Dispatch within the first year of employment.  Must be able to successfully complete a two-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia.  Must be able to work 12 hour shifts.

Hours:  12 hours shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Salary:  Grade 106 – Salary dependent on experience. Entry salary is $14.10 hour.

Public Services Worker I

The City of Greer is accepting applications for a Public Services Worker I in our Public Services Department.

Responsibilities: Various labor duties involving cleaning streets, trimming limbs, cutting grass, and repairing sidewalks, etc.  This position will also be responsible for minor repairs in City buildings, picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains.  Will operate variety of equipment and tools. 

Job Requirements:  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Minimum one (1) year of experience in maintenance, truck, equipment operations or other relevant experience.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and able to pass drug screen and criminal/credit background check.

Salary: Minimum salary $24,686 (Grade 101); dependent on experience.

Payroll and Accounting Specialist

The City of Greer is seeking a Payroll and Accounting Specialist in the Finance Department.  This position performs payroll and technical financial work in the City Finance Department.

Responsibilities: Processes City payroll; maintains payroll records; computes payments showing all deductions, special payments, contributions, and special with­holdings;  prints direct deposit notifications; sets schedules and deadlines for payroll; verifies invoices and prepares checks for payment of funds to proper agencies of state and federal withholdings, employee benefits, and voluntary deductions monthly, including garnishments, child support, deferred compensation, supplemental insurance, health insurance, and retirement benefits, etc.; maintains knowledge of any rate and procedural changes; reconciles general ledger payroll liability accounts; prepares monthly reports for various departments detailing payroll expenditures; prepares biweekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, schedules, and other information relating to benefits and payroll, including federal and state reports; responsible for Accounts Receivable, invoicing and recording payments; reconciles bank accounts; records fixed assets; prepares journal entries; coordinates the City’s Accommodations Tax Grant program and prepares minutes for the Accommodations Tax Grant Committee; serves as primary  technical contact with payroll software provider; coordinates the City’s reporting of Unclaimed Property with the State Treasurer; serves as liaison with Public Employee Benefits Authority; coordinates fleet vehicles reservations and maintenance; and performs various personnel related projects.

Job Requirements: Associate’s degree in accounting or related field and three (3) years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping; experience with payroll; must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 110 – Salary dependent on experience; minimum salary $36,087.

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
