Zoning Coordinator

The City of Greer is seeking a Zoning Coordinator in the Department of Building and Development Standards.

Responsibilities: In conjunction with the City Planner: handles the responsibility for conducting and coordinating planning in the City of Greer; Reviews plans and project applications submitted by architects, engineers, and contractors; checks building locations on property, airport, and flood zone requirements and the use of the building and signs for compliance with zoning codes; completes a comment form to indicate approval or to list required corrections; Performs field inspections of work in progress; coordinates with the Building Inspectors for setbacks; notifies contractor when code violations or deviations from the plan are found; enforces compliance by re-inspecting the work; Acts as support staff by receiving and processing applications for zoning changes and variances for the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission, placing  legal advertisements, sending notices to property owners, logging/filing all contracts and communicating and issuing letters of decisions; prepares agendas and represents the City at all Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission hearings and meetings, etc.; Serves as the Historic Preservation representative; prepares preservation plans; maintains historic property  and  district  databases; assists  the  Assessor  in  the  administration of the  special  tax assessment  program; contributes  to the  Board of Architectural Review;  acts  as Secretary  to  the  Historic  Preservation Board by  preparing  agendas,  recording,  and  preparing minutes.

Job requirements: Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning and 2 years of experience in urban, regional or community planning and zoning work with extensive knowledge of computer modeling and mapping or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the required skill, knowledge and ability.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary: Grade 114 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $43,319.

Administrative Assistant / Building & Dev. Standards

The City of Greer is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant in the Building and Development Standards Department.

Responsibilities: Perform daily administrative duties; type all correspondences, maintain files and logs; schedule and coordinate appointments; act as point of contact for planning, building and engineering; assist general public in person and over the telephone with questions and complaints; refers citizens to appropriate individual; prepare reports, take minutes a various meetings; process certified letters; sends property violation notices; prepares hearing notices and posts the publications; and records all calls and visits while providing efficient and helpful assistance.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma and minimum of 5 years’ experience in a responsible administrative position; Associate’s in Office Management Technology or related field and experience with construction and building codes preferred; Experience in Word and Excel necessary;  Must be able to deal effectively, courteously and professionally with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 107 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $30,786 year.

Grounds Superintendent

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Grounds Superintendent in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Responsibilities: Supervises department employees which involve such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases.;  Manages, directs, and supervises the activities of the Parks and Grounds Maintenance Division which involves overseeing detailed scheduling; supervises the maintenance of all City parks and park grounds, ball fields, and designated public grounds; responds to complaints as necessary.;  Supervises, instructs, assigns work, reviews work, and plans work of subordinate staff. Coordinates assignments through Director; works with department heads, City organizations, City Council, etc., in performing daily job duties. Ensures safe operation of assigned City vehicles.; Receives, reviews, and submits work orders, vehicle reports, and general office correspondence; prepares performance appraisals on subordinate staff with review and approval of the Director.

Job Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Horticulture or related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in progressively responsible grounds maintenance with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience; Must possess, or obtain within first year of employment Licensed South Carolina Chemical applicator certification and CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) Certification; Must possess a valid State issued drivers’ license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 3:30 PM; additional hours as scheduled; some weekends required.

Salary:  Grade 112 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $39,291 year.

Public Services Worker II/Building Maintenance

The City of Greer is accepting applications for a Public Services Worker II/Building Maintenance in our Public Services Department.

Responsibilities: Various labor duties involving cleaning streets, trimming limbs, cutting grass, and repairing sidewalks, picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains, etc.  General building maintenance which involves electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction and equipment repairs.  Paints, plasters and other needed repairs to walls, doors, etc.  Monitors A/C and service as needed.  Will operate variety of equipment and tools. 

Job Requirements:  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Minimum two (2) years of experience in labor work.  Must have working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and construction.   Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and able to pass drug screen and criminal/credit background check.

Salary: Minimum salary $26,445 (Grade 103); dependent on experience.

Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, M-F; hours will vary at times due to weather, City festivals, etc.

Summer Camp Counselors

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for multiple Summer Camp Counselor positions in the Recreation Department. 

Responsibilities: Oversees and plans activities for youth, ages 6-13, as well as organizes and implements games/themed activities related to the camp.  Counselors may be individually responsible for small groups of campers &/or participate in large group activities.

Job Requirements:  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and attending or graduated from high school. Must be certified in CPR and first aid (classes may be offered).  Must be able to drive a City of Greer mini bus (training will be available).  Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.  Must have valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday - Friday, hours will vary between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM; up to 40 hours per week.

Salary:  Minimum salary:  $8.00 hour

Summer Camp dates:  June 5 - August 4, 2017 (closed July 3 – 7).

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
