Assistant to the Chief of Police

The City of Greer is seeking an Assistant to the Chief of Police in the Police Department.  This position performs administrative duties in performing daily activities.

Responsibilities: Tracks and monitors department finances, coordinates  scheduling  for a  variety  of  functions  such  as seminars,  meeting, South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy information, etc;  Performs  a variety of administrative  duties such as  answering  telephones, referring  clients to appropriate   departments;   preparing   correspondence;   preparing   and   managing   personnel information; preparing  requisitions; receiving  and  distributing  mail;  maintaining,  ordering,  and distributing supplies; etc.;  Manages a variety of funds such as Police Club Fund, Police Drug Fund, Cops for Tots Fund, etc.;  Prepares and records employee evaluations, exit information, employee information, etc. Maintains Hall of Fame Board, Officer of the Month Board, etc.; Maintains the department's website, department pages on City cable channel, etc. Schedules equipment repairs, maintenance on equipment, etc.;  Develops and prepares Department Annual Report;  Coordinates and prepares budget reports, budgetary control, weekly payroll, comp-time, etc. on a regular basis;  Maintains monthly reports for Council Packets;  Coordinates and prepares department equipment (vehicles, cameras, office equipment, etc.) to be sold on GOVDEALS.com;  Coordinates and prepares departmental events such as Cops for Tots, Charity Golf Tournament, Awards Banquet, etc.;  Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Chief of Police, trainees, supervisors, Department heads, Department personnel, elected officials, vendors, media, and the general public.

Job Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of responsible administrative or clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) and MASC's Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Institute certification preferred.   Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 110 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $35,638 year.

Grounds Supervisor

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Grounds Supervisor in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Responsibilities: Supervises and performs ground maintenance for parks and recreation grounds which involves ensuring  cleanliness of grounds, preparing park grounds for athletic activities, weddings, parties, festivals, etc.;  Establishes a comprehensive horticultural program for a variety of trees, shrubs, turf and flower beds;  Performs supervisory duties as necessary to include instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, evaluates performance and made recommendations;  Performs electrical maintenance duties to include replacing lights indoors and outdoors;  Performs minor plumbing maintenance duties and repairs and maintains irrigation system;  Conducts minor repairs on mowers, weedeaters, blower, chain saw and tractor;  Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of reports and documents;  Conducts safety checks on truck and tools contents;  Performs landscaping activities such as erosion control;  Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the restrooms.

Job Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Horticulture or related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in grounds maintenance; Must have knowledge of materials, methods, horticultural practices and equipment used in park grounds maintenance and minor repair activities in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, irrigation, painting, and mechanical; Prefer supervisory experience; Must possess, or obtain within first year of employment Licensed South Carolina Chemical applicator certification and CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) Certification;  SC Commercial Driver’s License, preferred. Must possess a valid State issued drivers’ license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 3:30 PM; additional hours as scheduled; some weekends required.

Salary:  Grade 109 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $33,941 year.

Public Services Worker I

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Public Services Worker I in our Public Services Department.

Responsibilities: Various labor duties involving cleaning streets, trimming limbs, cutting grass, and repairing sidewalks, etc.  This position will also be responsible for minor repairs in City buildings, picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains.  Will operate variety of equipment and tools.

Job Requirements:  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Minimum one (1) year of experience in maintenance, truck, equipment operations or other relevant experience.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and able to pass drug screen and criminal/credit background check.

Salary: Minimum salary $24,686 (Grade 101); dependent on experience.

Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, M-F; hours will vary at times due to weather, City festivals, etc.

Part-Time Ministerial Recorder (Administrative Judge)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Ministerial Recorder in the Municipal Court.

Responsibilities:  Receives warrant requests from officers and determines if a warrant should be issued based on  the Code (Probable Cause) and granting or denying the request;  Sets bonds according to established guidelines; completing the necessary paperwork;  Arraigns individuals arrested within the City of Greer to ensure all rights are provided;   Sets court dates for Municipal Court cases;  Determines if accused should be committed to confinement based on the Code, guidelines and previous record and completes applicable paperwork;  Performs general administrative duties including data entry, typing, filing, etc.

Job Requirements:  Must have a minimum of five years of experience in a criminal justice or legal field;  Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related area; Must be certified by the State of South Carolina as a certified judge or must obtain certification within the first year of employment.

Hours of work:  Rotating every third weekend –on-call with set hours Saturdays from 9:00 am to noon and 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Sundays from 9:00 am to noon and 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm and rotating holidays.

Salary: $16.32 hour minimum salary; DOE; Grade 109

Telecommunicator

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Telecommunicators in the Fire and Police Departments. 

Responsibilities: Answers 911 emergency and non-emergency telephone lines; dispatches calls to responding police and fire units; monitors alarms and other telecommunications equipment; operates SLED/NCIC computer in order to access information and prepares various reports and maintains communication logs.

Job requirements: High School diploma or GED.  Must be able to successfully complete the E911 training class and become certified by the National Crime Information Center, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Priority Police Dispatch within the first year of employment.  Must be able to successfully complete a two-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia.  Must be able to work 12 hour shifts

Hours:  12 hours shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Salary:  Grade 106 – Salary dependent on experience. Entry salary is $14.10 hour.

Summer Camp Counselors

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for multiple Summer Camp Counselor positions in the Recreation Department. 

Responsibilities: Oversees and plans activities for youth, ages 6-13, as well as organizes and implements games/themed activities related to the camp.  Counselors may be individually responsible for small groups of campers &/or participate in large group activities.

Job Requirements:  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and attending or graduated from high school. Must be certified in CPR and first aid (classes may be offered).  Must be able to drive a City of Greer mini bus (training will be available).  Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.  Must have valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday - Friday, hours will vary between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM; up to 40 hours per week.

Salary:  Minimum salary:  $8.00 hour

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
