Assistant City Engineer

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for an Assistant City Engineer.   Under general supervision performs complex technical and professional work in the land development, engineering design, storm water management design and construction of public works and related projects.  Assist the City Engineer with City Capital Projects and remedial projects; help coordinate activities of other professional and technical employees on related and/or development projects.  Assist other departments with engineering related issues that arise from daily activities. Address issues from the public and from elected officials that relate to the engineering field in general.  Reports to the City Engineer/Department Head.

Responsibilities: Assist with achieving department goals and objectives established by Department Head or City Administrator.  These functions may include but not be limited to:  Assist with all aspects of the storm water program to include overall program management, meetings, plan reviews, site inspections and documentation, keeping track of all requirements and deadlines/schedules of the SCDHEC Construction General Permit requirements.  Manage Capital Improvement projects. Assist with paving/road maintenance program.  Define scopes of projects, prepare Request for Proposals (RFP’s) and cost estimates, manage design, construction and contract administration of Capital Improvement, storm drainage, sidewalk, streetscape and other municipal projects.  Serve as Project Manager on complex engineering and/or infrastructure projects.  Coordinate meetings and requests from developers, citizens, contractors, engineers and attorneys.  Handle internal and citizen requests in a timely manner.  Prepare and/or participate in City Council agenda items and presentations relating to department activities.  Coordinate, review and/or prepare traffic studies and surveys and make recommendations for traffic control devices, traffic calming etc.  Provide technical support to City Engineer and other departments.  Participate in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures; review and evaluate work methods and procedures for performance improvement; ensure goals and objectives are achieved.  Assist or back up City Engineer, Storm water Engineer or Storm water Inspector as necessary to meet department goals, objectives and tasks.  

Job requirements: Bachelor's degree in civil, structural or related engineering field with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering / public works operations and administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must be certified as a S.C. Professional Engineer or obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.  Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM

Salary:  Salary dependent upon experience, minimum salary $48,361

Administrative Clerk

The City of Greer is seeking an Administrative Clerk in the Administration Department.  This position performs clerical and administrative duties in City Hall under the supervision of the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities: Receipt fees and issue business licenses and permits; collect and receipt fees and taxes for all departments; issue building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, grading and moving permits; reconcile all receipts entered each day; prepare various reports using Microsoft Office System and Finance software; operate the switchboard.

Job Requirements: High School diploma and three years of experience in general office work; Associate’s degree preferred in accounting or office technology; Experience in Word and Excel necessary;  Must be able to deal effectively, courteously and professionally with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 106 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $29,689 year.

Criminal Investigations Division Clerk

The City of Greer is seeking a CID Clerk in the Police Department.  This position performs clerical and administrative duties in the Criminal Investigations Division under the supervision of the Lieutenant.

Responsibilities: Enters specific information from activity reports into a spreadsheet database while reviewing for crime trends, series or needed intelligence information;  Receives all initial correspondence to CID; Composes letters, bulletins, memorandums, reports and other requests by Investigators; Creates case files for all assigned cases; Maintains and enters all assigned cases into a database for Investigators; Enters and maintains all law enforcement related schedules for CID division including court dates, interviews, meeting, etc.;  Files closed and cleared case files;  Enter prisoner debriefing and FI information as needed;  Maintains and updates office supplies; Updates and maintains juvenile files;  Delivers mail, case files, office supplies, etc. to perspective office;  Prepares and/or processes various records and reports .  Assist Victim’s Advocates on an as needed basis.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in research and data collection or related field; Associate’s degree preferred in criminal justice or geography; Experience in Word and Excel necessary;  Must be able to deal effectively, courteously and professionally with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 105 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $28,685 year.

Public Services Worker I

The City of Greer is accepting applications for a Public Services Worker I in our Public Services Department.

Responsibilities: Various labor duties involving cleaning streets, trimming limbs, cutting grass, and repairing sidewalks, etc.  This position will also be responsible for minor repairs in City buildings, picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains.  Will operate variety of equipment and tools.


Job Requirements:  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Minimum one (1) year of experience in maintenance, truck, equipment operations or other relevant experience.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and able to pass drug screen and criminal/credit background check.


Salary: Minimum salary $24,997 (Grade 101); dependent on experience

Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, M-F; hours will vary at times due to weather, City festivals, etc.

Groundskeeper I

The City of Greer is seeking multiple full-time Groundskeeper I in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position is responsible for maintenance and repair of parks and recreational facilities and grounds.

Responsibilities: Performs various repairs to recreational facilities to ensure proper operation and security, which involves mending fences, performing carpentry and masonry work, installing and repairing fixtures, plumbing, etc. Utilizes various tools and equipment/machinery in the performance of the job such as tractors, trucks, power tools, carpenter tools, paint sprayers, chain saws, floor equipment, mechanic tools, etc. Performs ground maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns, trimming shrubbery and trees, performing weed control, picking up litter and other refuse, raking leaves, etc. Performs landscaping activities including erosion control.  Assists with events and functions in City Hall including set up for scheduled activities.  Renovates and/or maintains gym floors, builds platforms and performs other non-routine projects as assigned.  Maintains the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the restrooms in public recreational facilities. Receives and prepares necessary maintenance records, work charts, time cards and other records.

Job Requirements: High School diploma/GED and experience in grounds and/or facility maintenance.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or Monday through Friday, noon to 8:30 PM; additional hours as schedule; some weekends required.  Please specify preferred shift.

Salary:   Grade 103 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $26,778 year.

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
